Avoid Creating Carbon

  • Leaving two incandescent lights on through the night represents over 1/2 ton of carbon per year.
  • Ensure lights and devices with phantom electric draw are off when they aren’t being used. This means you should unplug your cell phone charger, TV and other electronics from the wall when you are not using them.
  • Choose energy efficient appliances with lower ratings "Energy Star" label.  Not all manufacturers qualify have an 'Energy Star' certification.  Our SunDanzer fridge hasn't been rated under 'Energy Star' but it uses 1/4 the power of 'Energy Star' rated refrigerators.
  • Wash your dishes in a full dishwasher.  You'll use less hot water and energy in total.
  • Wash your clothes in a full washing machine.  Wash in cold water, the cost of the hot water is fully 4X the cost of electricity to washing your clothes.
  • Use a laundry line to dry your clothes.
  • If you're going to leave your computer for a short while put it into standby or sleep mode if you're leaving it for a longer period of time.
  • Before turning up the heat or the A/C down think about changing your clothes, add a sweater or wear a lighter outfit to suit the temperature.
  • Replacing a standard incandescent 100W bulb with an LED of equivalent light will save 150 pounds of carbon dioxide and will save you from $51-$67 in electric cost.
  • Fluorescent lights save energy but don't be fooled, the energy consumed by the fluorescent fixtures (the Ballast) almost doubles the total power consumed, Consider a LED fluorescent replacement.
